The purpose of these qualifications is to provide learners with the underpinning skills and knowledge required to progress to further study in the building and construction industries and, ultimately, to work in these or other related sectors.


OCNLR Entry Level 3 to Level 1 Certificate/Diploma in Progression

These qualifications provide a flexible and alternative range of learning opportunities for a varied group of learners with a variety of differing learning needs and interests, including adults returning to learning, learners with "spiky profiles" and learners who in the past may have felt disengaged from learning. The qualifications seek to enable learners to follow a programme tailored to their learning needs, whilst at the same time achieving a nationally recognised qualification. They incorporate a large range of 300 units that can be combined in many different ways to produce learning pathways that meet your different learner needs and reflect their particular interests and aspirations.

This qualification will be made up of a number of units which may include some of the following:

  • Personal and Interpersonal Conflict
  • Brickwork: Introduction to Building a Half Brick Wall Three Courses High
  • Building a Three Brick Square Hollow Pillar
  • Constructing a Half Brick Wide Wall using Bricklaying Skills
  • Constructing a One Brick Wide Wall using Bricklaying Skills
  • Use of Tools and Equipment for Bricklaying

OCNLR Level 2 Certificate/Extended Certificate in Skills for Professions in Building and Construction

Qualifications in Level 2 Skills for Professions in Building and Construction aim to provide learners with the skills and knowledge required to progress to further study related to building and construction and ultimately to work in this or related sectors. The qualifications are available as an Award, Certificate and Extended Certificate. The Level 2 Award is a bite-sized qualification which acts as a ‘taster’ for those wishing to explore vocational study alongside learning skills, while the Certificate and Extended Certificates are more substantial qualifications which provide learners with the opportunity to consolidate and extend their learning in preparation for further vocational learning, into employment or an apprenticeship.
