NVQ (National Vocational Qualification)

Programme length
NVQs are run on a part-time basis, two days per week over three terms. This
allows for the practical instruction of seasonal work relating to the land-
based sector.
Entry Requirements
Open to adults (over 18 yrs). Concessions will be made for those not
in education, employment or training.
LAND-BASED OPTIONS (Level 1)
Land-based Options allow candidates to gain a practical taste of the
different career options available within the land-based sector. These
include agriculture, horticulture, small animal care and environmental
conservation. This course is ideal for anyone with an interest in working
outdoors or with plants or animals but is unsure which route to take.
Progression
- NVQ Level 2 of Students' choice;
- educational programme at Duchy College. Students are given guidance as
to the opportunities available to them near completion;
- employment.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION (Level 2)
This programme is designed to give candidates the necessary practical
skills and knowledge to gain employment within the environmental sector.
Students will cover a wide variety of practical skills such as stone-walling,
fencing, hedge-laying, coppicing, tractor driving, gate hanging,
etc. It is worth noting that this course has been delivered for a number of
years successfully to those wanting to add practical experience to their
CVs and has a proven track record of opening doors into employment within
environmental sector. Special concessions will be made to under-graduates
and graduates.
