Work Based Progression Diploma

This ten week funded course is designed for 16 - 19 year olds who have left education and
not yet found employment. The aim of the course is to help young people to explore different employment
opportunities whilst gaining the skills they need to gain employment.
This programme has been designed for students who want to:
- Explore different career opportunities.
- Experience a range of vocational related areas to identify personal preferences / abilities.
- Test out preferred vocationally related area before pursuing sector specific qualifications.
- Understand how to develop effective workplace relationships and interpersonal skills.
- Learn how to work effectively as part of a team.
The flexibility of the Work Based Progression Award allows students the opportunity to undertake a
variety of modules from different vocational backgrounds from the OCN framework. Students will be
encouraged to be proactive in their choice of modules through developing their own Individual Learning
Plans with their tutor to reflect their own interests.
One of the central elements of this programme is to equip students with skills that help them gain
employment such as effective job search techniques, CV writing, interview techniques, developing self
presentational skills etc. All students will be required to undertake these modules.
To achieve the Work Based Progression Diploma students must achieve twenty four unit credits of which
at six must be core units. Students will put together a portfolio of their work for external
moderation.
