TST has joined forces with a number of organisations to offer young people within Cornwall and Devon
the opportunity to gain first hand practical experience of working within the countryside sector.
These courses are designed for anyone who enjoys being outdoors who is between 14 - 16 year olds. The
aim of the course is to give young people the opportunity of experiencing a wide range of tasks
utilised in the outdoors sector. TST will use its unique facilities to teach these young people new
skills.
TST can tailor make programmes to meet individual schools needs. The courses can be specific for
example conservation, construction, agriculture, mechanics or designed to encompass a wider range of
skills from across the different landbased spectrum.
Course can be designed to meet individual student or group needs and can range from a week, to a term,
to a whole academic year and can be offered from one to five days per week.
These courses also include challenges designed to build confidence, promote team work and develop
communication and organisational skills. The emphasis is on experiential education that is both fun and
practical. The aim is to develop both social and practical skills which will help young people on
their future career path.
These courses can also act as a stepping stone to nationally recognised qualifications such as
Land-based Skills, Careers Progression Diploma, Apprenticeships, First Diplomas, etc.
While much of the course will involve participation in outdoor activities students will also receive
instruction in life skills, health and safety and landbased sector career guidance and advice.
